The Clinical Informatics Specialist serves as a bridge between clinical practice and information technology. This role focuses on optimizing electronic health records (EHRs), improving clinical workflows, and supporting digital health initiatives that enhance patient safety, care quality, and provider efficiency. The informaticist collaborates with clinicians, IT, and quality teams to support data-driven decision-making and system improvements.
Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and IT to implement and optimize EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech)
Support system configuration, testing, go-live, and maintenance for clinical applications
Analyze clinical workflows and recommend digital solutions to improve documentation, compliance, and patient care
Provide training, support, and change management assistance to clinical users
Participate in data governance and analytics initiatives to enhance outcomes and reporting
Evaluate system usage, troubleshoot issues, and ensure system usability aligns with evidence-based practice
Collaborate on regulatory reporting, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement projects
Stay current on healthcare technology trends, informatics standards, and data privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA)
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master’s in Health Informatics preferred)
Licensure (if RN): Active RN license in [State]
Certifications (preferred):
ANCC Board Certification in Informatics Nursing (RN-BC)
Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS)
Experience: 2–5 years of experience in clinical practice and/or health IT systems
Proficient in EHR systems, clinical decision support tools, and workflow optimization
Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills
