Job : Atlassian Administrator (with SaaS Migration Experience)

Location:     Minnepolis, MN - Onsite

Job Summary

The Atlassian Administrator is responsible for the end-to-end administration, governance, and optimization of Atlassian platforms (primarily Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket), ensuring reliable service delivery, security compliance, and seamless user experience. This role also leads and supports SaaS migrations—particularly Atlassian Server/Data Center to Atlassian Cloud—covering discovery, planning, execution, and post-migration stabilization, with a strong focus on data integrity, automation, and stakeholder communication.

Key Responsibilities

· Own day-to-day administration of Jira (Software/Service Management), Confluence, Bitbucket, and related Marketplace apps, including configuration, maintenance, and upgrades.

· Design and implement Jira projects, workflows, screens, issue types, fields, and automation rules; maintain Confluence spaces, permissions, templates, and macros.

· Manage user lifecycle (provisioning, deprovisioning), permissions, and groups; enforce RBAC, project roles, and space permissions aligned with security policies.

· Develop and maintain integrations via REST APIs, webhooks, and automation tools; coordinate with DevOps/IT teams to connect Atlassian to CI/CD, ITSM, and monitoring systems.

· Establish governance standards: naming conventions, schemes, app usage policies, archiving/cleanup routines, and performance tuning.

· Monitor platform health, capacity, and performance; implement proactive maintenance, backups, and disaster recovery procedures.

· Provide tier-2/3 support, troubleshoot complex issues, and resolve incidents/requests; create runbooks, knowledge base articles, and user documentation.

· Train power users, project admins, and teams; conduct enablement sessions and best-practice workshops.

· Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements (e.g., data residency, GDPR, SOC2) and align configurations with audit needs.

· Partner with vendors and Atlassian support for escalations, roadmap alignment, and license management.

SaaS Migration – Roles & Responsibilities

· Lead migrations from Atlassian Server/Data Center to Atlassian Cloud (or cross-instance consolidations), including discovery, assessment, and migration planning.

· Perform application and app (Marketplace) inventory; evaluate compatibility and replacement strategies; manage app reconfiguration in Cloud.

· Design migration approach (big-bang vs. phased), cutover plans, and rollback strategies; coordinate change management and communication.

· Execute data migration: projects, issues, workflows, fields, boards, filters, dashboards, Confluence spaces, attachments, and permissions; validate data integrity post-cutover.

· Implement identity and access management (SSO/SAML/OAuth, SCIM user provisioning), align with enterprise IdP (e.g., Azure AD/Okta), and enforce security baselines.

· Optimize Cloud configurations: shared schemes, automation rules, performance settings, and cost/licensing footprint; deprecate unused artifacts.

· Establish testing plans: unit/system/UAT, smoke tests, and parallel run; capture exit criteria and acceptance sign-offs.

· Develop migration runbooks and operational playbooks; deliver handover and support readiness for post-migration stabilization.

· Track and mitigate risks (data loss, downtime, permission drift, app gaps); implement monitoring and incident response during and after cutover.

Required Skills & Qualifications

· 3–7+ years administering Atlassian products (Jira Software/Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket).

· Hands-on experience with Atlassian Cloud administration and migration tools (e.g., Cloud Migration Assistant, Site Import, Jira/Confluence Cloud).

· Strong knowledge of Jira schemes (workflow, screen, field, permission, notification) and Confluence space administration.

· Experience with SSO/SAML, SCIM provisioning, and identity providers (Azure AD, Okta); understanding of RBAC and least-privilege principles.

· Proficiency with REST APIs, automation (Jira Automation, Confluence Automation), and scripting (Python/PowerShell); familiarity with JSON and CSV data handling.

· Understanding of change management, release management, and ITSM practices; exposure to incident/problem management processes.

· Knowledge of security, compliance, and auditing requirements (GDPR, SOC2, ISO 27001) for SaaS platforms.

· Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.

Preferred Skills

· Atlassian certifications (ACP-120 Jira Admin for Cloud, ACP-610 for Server/Data Center, or equivalent).

· Experience with Marketplace apps (e.g., ScriptRunner, Insight/Assets, Tempo, Automation for Jira) and their Cloud equivalents.

· Familiarity with DevOps tooling (Git, CI/CD pipelines), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and observability integrations (e.g., Splunk, Datadog).

· Background in large-scale data migrations, tenant consolidation, or hybrid architectures.

· Exposure to governance frameworks and cost optimization in SaaS environments.

KPIs & Success Metrics

· Platform availability and performance (e.g., uptime, response times, admin queue SLA).

· Migration success rate (data integrity defects, rollback events, cutover duration).

· User adoption and satisfaction (NPS/CSAT, support ticket volume/time-to-resolution).

· Governance adherence (unused artifacts reduced, app usage compliance, audit findings).

· Automation impact (manual effort reduced, MTTR improvements, ticket auto-resolution rate).

· Cost and license optimization (inactive users reclaimed, app/license spend reduction).
