Job Title: Functional Tester

Location : Oakland, CA (Onsite )

Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Functional Tester to ensure the quality and reliability of software applications by validating functionality against business and technical requirements. The role involves test planning, execution, defect reporting, and close collaboration with development and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze business and functional requirements to understand application behavior.
• Design, write, and execute test cases and test scenarios for functional testing.
• Perform different types of testing such as Smoke, Sanity, Regression, System, and UAT support.
• Identify, log, track, and retest defects using defect tracking tools.
• Validate data accuracy and business rules during testing.
• Work closely with developers, business analysts, and product owners to clarify requirements.
• Participate in requirement review meetings and provide test estimates.
• Prepare test execution reports and share testing status with stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to QA processes, standards, and best practices.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and SDLC
• Hands-on experience in manual functional testing
• Knowledge of test case design techniques
• Experience with defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, ALM, Bugzilla)
• Basic knowledge of SQL for data validation
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and documentation skills

Good to Have

• Experience in Agile/Scrum methodology
• Knowledge of API testing (Postman, Swagger)
• Exposure to test management tools (TestRail, Zephyr)
• Domain experience (Banking, Healthcare, E-commerce, etc.)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
• Relevant testing certification (ISTQB) is a plus
