GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

 

Working Hours & Location

  • Standard hours: 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM (Alberta Time), Monday–Friday.
  • Work must be conducted within Canada (security requirement).
  • Primarily remote; 3–4 onsite meetings per year may be required (travel at contractor’s cost).
  • Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required with notice.

 

Incumbency

  • The role was previously filled by a contractor; however, GoA will select the best-qualified candidate.

  • Other optional GoA courses as required

 

Equipment Requirements

  • Preferably the contractor provides their own equipment.
  • GoA can provide a laptop/desktop if required.

Project Scope:

Cloud Platform Services supports the GOAs fully integrated Cloud products Cloud landing zones and M365 services that enable APS staff to work more collaboratively and efficiently as they deliver valuable programs and services to Albertans. The Cloud Platform Services area is also responsible for the continuous service improvement and continuous service development of those services and products.

Reporting to the Team Lead, GoA Messaging Services, this role will support various IT services: Exchange Online, MS Teams support, M365 Defender, M365 Purview, and others.

 

Role Overview:

The Government of Alberta is seeking one (1) IT Technical Resource to support Cloud Platform Services, specifically within GoA Messaging Services. The role focuses on operational support, configuration, optimization, and problem resolution across key Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, MS Teams, M365 Defender, and MS Purview.

The resource will work under the Team Lead, Messaging Services, and will be responsible for incident, change, and problem ticket fulfillment, along with continuous service improvement and documentation activities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Operational Support & Ticket Management

  • Fulfill incident, change, and problem tickets for Microsoft 365 workloads according to SLAs.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across Exchange Online, MS Teams, Defender, Purview, and related cloud services.
  • Perform upgrades, configuration adjustments, and hands-on implementation of messaging systems.

Service Enhancement & Recommendations

  • Review new service/technology requests and assess operational impacts.
  • Provide recommendations covering resource requirements, dependencies, policy impacts, and configuration optimizations.
  • Evaluate existing services and propose remediation strategies where needed.

Architecture & Deployment Support

  • Assist with the development of action plans, schedules, task lists, and resource assignments for deployments.
  • Contribute to architectural planning activities for messaging platforms and cloud solutions.

Documentation & Quality Assurance

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge base materials.
  • Provide quality control during production implementations.
  • Track and report work activities, ensuring status transparency.

Team Collaboration

  • Actively contribute to team communication, knowledge sharing, and cross-training.
  • Work effectively both independently and within a team environment.

 

Mandatory Qualifications (Must Have)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or equivalent.

Work Experience (Minimum 8 Years)

  • Designing, planning, implementing, and supporting Exchange 2016/2019.
  • Supporting email security: anti-spam, anti-phishing, malware protection.
  • Supporting Skype for Business or Microsoft Teams in enterprise environments.
  • Microsoft architecture, installation, and administration in large enterprise settings.

Availability

  • Ability to work evenings/weekends during change windows, as required.

Experience designing, planning, implementing and supporting On-Premesis Exchange 2016/2019, Exchange SE environment and Exchange Online in large organization of comparable size and complexity to the Government of Alberta.

Experience in user identity verification processes, and maintaining user IDs, passwords and accounts permission levels for business applications.
