Job Description

Job Title: Mainframe Developer

Location: Mississauga, ON (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)
Employment Type: Long Term Contract


Experience Required: 7+ Years

 

Job Overview: We are looking for a skilled Senior Mainframe Developer to join our technology team in Mississauga. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in mainframe technologies, strong problem-solving skills, and experience delivering complex enterprise solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain, enhance, and modernize critical mainframe applications in a hybrid work environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, enhance, and support mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and DB2.
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Perform unit testing, debugging, and performance tuning of mainframe programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA, DevOps, Business Analysts) to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support production systems and provide timely issue resolution.
  • Contribute to mainframe modernization or integration projects (where applicable).

 

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe application development.
  • Strong proficiency in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and CICS.
  • Experience with file handling, batch processing, and online transaction systems.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and stored procedures.
  • Experience in debugging tools (Expeditor, Abend-AID) and version control (Endevor, Changeman).
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Familiarity with mainframe modernization tools, APIs, or integration with distributed systems is a plus.

 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in migration or re-platforming mainframe applications.
  • Exposure to DevOps pipelines, Git, or cloud integration (AWS Mainframe Modernization).
  • Familiarity with Rexx scripting or assembler programming.
