Job Title: DataStax Cassandra Administrator
Job Summary:
As a DataStax Cassandra Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the DataStax Cassandra Database Management System (DBMS). Your role will involve handling the overall system administration, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the Cassandra clusters. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize the database infrastructure and implement best practices, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Install, configure, and upgrade DataStax Cassandra DBMS on multiple environments.
2. Design and implement Cassandra data models, schemas, and resource plans.
3. Monitor and maintain the performance, health, and security of Cassandra clusters.
4. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, data inconsistencies, and software bugs.
5. Implement backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity and minimizing downtime.
6. Collaborate with application developers to optimize queries, data access patterns, and schema designs.
7. Automate administrative tasks and develop scripts for monitoring, maintenance, and deployment.
8. Perform capacity planning and scalability assessments to accommodate future growth and usage patterns.
9. Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical production systems and participate in the resolution of emergencies.
10. Document configuration settings, system architecture, and troubleshooting steps.
11. Conduct performance tuning, load testing, and benchmarking activities to identify opportunities for optimization.
12. Stay updated with DataStax and Cassandra releases, new features, security patches, and industry best practices.
13. Train and mentor team members to enhance their Cassandra administration skills.
14. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and enforce data governance policies.
15. Continuously evaluate and propose improvements to the database infrastructure, processes, and procedures.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Proven work experience as a Cassandra Administrator or in a similar database administration role.
3. Strong knowledge of the DataStax Enterprise (DSE) platform, Cassandra architecture, and NoSQL concepts.
4. Proficient in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting DataStax Enterprise (DSE) Cassandra clusters.
5. Solid understanding of Cassandra database, data modeling, and CQL (Cassandra Query Language).
6. Experience in performance tuning, capacity planning, and cluster optimization.
7. Familiarity with Linux/Unix systems and Shell scripting.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
9. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
10. Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies, high availability solutions, and disaster recovery planning.
11. Experience with monitoring tools like DataStax OpsCenter, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
12. Basic understanding of networking concepts and security best practices.
13. Certifications like DataStax Certified Apache Cassandra Administrator (DS-CA) or equivalent will be a plus.
14. Attention to detail, proactive mindset, and a passion for continuous learning and improvement.
15. US citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.
