Job Title: Train Design Engineer (Locomotive/Train Domain)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Train Design Engineer with expertise in the Locomotive/Train domain to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative train solutions, implementing engineering concepts, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, leverage your technical expertise, and contribute to the successful execution of train design projects.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct thorough research and analysis to understand train design requirements, specifications, and user needs
- Design and develop mechanical components, systems, and subsystems for locomotives and trains
- Create 2D and 3D models, drawings, and technical specifications using CAD software
- Perform design calculations, simulations, and prototype testing to assess performance, efficiency, and safety
- Collaborate with electrical, control, and structural engineers to integrate systems and ensure seamless functionality
- Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and technical discussions to improve design concepts and resolve challenges
- Create and maintain documentation, including design documentation, Bill of Materials (BoM), and technical reports
- Continuously stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and relevant regulations in the train design domain
- Collaborate with procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth production and assembly processes
- Provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and offer guidance to colleagues and stakeholders
- Adhere to project timelines, goals, and budgets while maintaining high-quality standards
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards throughout the design process
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and performance enhancement
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred
- Proven experience in the design and development of trains and locomotives
- In-depth knowledge of locomotive systems, mechanisms, and sub-systems
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, etc.) for 2D and 3D modeling
- Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools (ANSYS, MATLAB, etc.) for design validation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of safety and regulatory requirements (FRA, AAR, etc.) in the train design domain
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and cost optimization
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry advancements
- Professional certification in train design or a related field is a plus
